Police said around 10.20 am, Ricky “Isasha” Phillip left his Diego Martin home and was making his way across the highway when a car struck him near to the Four Roads intersection.
The driver stopped to render assistance to Phillip who was unconscious. He was taken by ambulance to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, but died shortly after midday.
When contacted yesterday afternoon, investigators said they were yet to determine whether the driver of the car was responsible or Phillip was at fault for crossing the busy thoroughfare.
In a telephone interview, Phillip’s father said his family was deeply traumatised and had only received “bits and pieces” of information on the accident from friends and relatives.
An emotional Phillip described his son as his “carbon copy” as he said he was the only one of his eight children to follow in his footsteps in the music industry.
“He was polite and very likeable,” the elder Phillip said.
Funeral arrangements are yet to be finalised by Phillip’s family.
Detectives of the Four Roads Police Station are continuing investigations.
