
Relatives of murder victim Sherlene Mahangoo-Charles welcomed the news this morning of the discovery of a body believed to be Azad Ali, the wheelchair-bound person of interest in her murder probe.
The family was living in fear since Mahangoo-Charles' was shot to death by her estranged lover. Charles’ 17-year-old daughter, Kimberly Mahangoo, who was also shot three times during the attack at their home at Stoney Hill Avenue, Tarodale. Neighbours reported seeing Ali around the family’s home and they suspect he was seeking further vengeance after Charles ended their relationship last December.
Ali, also known as Goat, was also a person of interest in the investigation into the murder of 19-year-old Salma Chadee. He was deemed as the Central Division’s most wanted man by divisional head Supt Johnny Abraham.
The body was discovered early this morning on Reform Road, off the highway in Gasparillo. The manhunt for Ali was ongoing for several days. The badly decomposed body fit Ali's description. It was found close to the site where police had done a search two weeks ago.
An autopsy is expected to be done soon.
