While the identification of a burnt body found in the Toco forest last week remains a mystery, police are saying it may be that of Junior Dass who was killed over a missing gun.

According to police investigators Dass was given an illegal gun to keep and lost it.

Another man is said to have found the gun and when Dass confronted him about it he was killed, investigators said.

Police confirmed a motive even while some Dass’ relatives believe that he is still alive.

Speaking with the media at the Forensic Science Centre, St James, on Monday a relative of Dass, who asked not to be identified, said the identification will be confirmed within a month after DNA testing.

Dass’ parents—Barbara Cedeno and Frederick Dass—believe the body found was that of their son since no one else in the area has been reported missing.

They said they wanted closure in the matter and found that a month was too long a wait before they could move on with their lives.

Dass’ parents described the father of one as a quiet man, adding he had no disagreement with anyone in the neighbourhood and were baffled as to who or why anyone would want him dead.

Dass, of Allandale Road, Land Settlement Village, was last seen on January 13 at Cumana Junction, his father told police.
