One of the bodies found at Brasso Seco, Paria on the weekend, initially believed to be that of a woman, was in fact a man. The decomposing corpse was identified as Felix Hernandez, 52, who disappeared during a hunting mission in the forest. Hernandez was identified by his clothing and was known to the family that went missing. The finding has strengthened Gail Harford’s belief that her mother is still alive.

On October 26, Irma Rampersad, 49, and her 17-year-old daughter Felicia Gonzales, a student of Malabar Secondary School 19-year-old Jenelle Gonzales and her one-year-old daughter Shania Amoroso were abducted from their Brasso Seco home. Police are now looking for a fugitive, Azmon Alexander, to assist them in their investigations. So far, five people including three relatives of the missing family have been arrested.

Speaking with the media at the Forensic Science Centre, St James, yesterday, Harford said Hernandez had a cord tied around his neck and a bandana. It is believed he was strangled. The body of the child, she said, was not positively identified and DNA testing will confirm if it was that of her niece, one-year-old Shania Amoroso. The family will have to return to the centre today as the bodies will be x-rayed. “We identified the baby by the clothing but further tests will need to be taken. We were prepared to see a female so we still have hope the other three are alive still and we are not giving up hope at all but we need closure.”

“We want to know the purpose of the whole thing as well, there is no sense. Brasso Seco is no longer home for any of us anymore, too many bad memories. It just creepy and scary for us.”
Shania’s grandmother Helen Assing said she was baffled at the heartless and senseless killing. Assing said she believed in God and that vengeance was his and she was prayerful that the killer/killers would meet swift justice. On Saturday, police found the decomposing remains of a baby and an unidentified person wrapped in a blanket off a precipice in the forest about two miles from the family’s Brasso Seco home.
